Annie: Rescued, Trained, Adopted, Re-rescued, and Sanctuary Resident

In the summer of 2017, Cat was contacted via social media about two older mustangs abandoned on a property in Connecticut.  The owner had adopted several mustangs, never worked them, and moved away, leaving the horses behind. The new property owners couldn't continue tending to them. Cat and her mother drove from New Jersey to the property (over four hours each way) to fetch both horses.

Annie was the older of the two and not in very good shape.  A pretty chestnut colored mare with white lacing on the back, she was afraid and nervous of everything. After working with Annie for six months, Cat managed to gentle her and help her overcome her fears.

In March 2018, Annie moved to a horse farm in Georgia. Originally intended to be further trained and then re-homed, the owners fell in love with her and permanently adopted her. We thought she had found her forever home.

In May 2019, Cat learned that Annie was being starved to-death by the new owner (along with over 24 other mustangs). The Bureau of Land Management pulled out the horses and, after Annie regained the strength to travel, Cat fetched her. Annie now resides at CZ Mustangs and will be a permanent resident at their newly formed sanctuary.

Lily the Wild Horse at CZ Mustangs with Cat Zimmerman

Lily: Rescued, Transferred, Trained, and Sanctuary Resident

A beautiful chestnut mare, Lily was transferred to CZ Mustangs in September 2018 from Skip Over Trouble Equine Rescue in Citra, Florida. They had rescued her from the wild horse herd in Umatilla, Florida and contacted Cat Zimmerman and CZ Mustangs to take Lily so that Cat could train her and find her a good home.

The Umatilla wild horses are an interesting story and one that is far too common. Apparently these horses are Quarter Horse/Morgan crosses and were left to breed and roam free on 1400 acres of private land in Florida for multiple generations. Kill buyers were coming to get them and may horse trainers stepped up to rescue them. Lily and her foal were rescued by Penny Crosby and the Skip Over Trouble Equine Rescue in 2017.  Others were not so lucky…

Lily has a problem with her hooves and, as such, is joining the newly formed CZ Mustangs’ sanctuary.

Cat Zimmerman's Rescued Mustang, Izzy, at CZ Mustangs

Izzy: Surrendered and In-Training/Sanctuary Resident

A beautiful 4-year-old gray mare BLM mustang from Silver King, Nevada, Izzy was surrendered to CZ Mustangs in July 2018. Izzy is a pretty little mustang with amazing markings.

When Izzy first arrived, she was very skittish and skinny. Shortly after her arrival, she became sick and required veterinary care and a lot of T.L.C. from Team CZ Mustangs to help her recover.
Cat put a strong groundwork foundation on Izzy and may start her under saddle as well as train her for liberty .We are looking for sponsors for Izzy: food, farrier, health care.
Because of her trust issues, Izzie is going to join our other sanctuary horses at CZ Mustangs.
